I must install client program before? addrbook.py is a client program a very simple one but a good example but I must call it from a client or in the same machine where run geas-server? both should work, but it's easier to call it from the same machine of course just edit addrbook.py with your favourite text editor with the program client GNUe-forms with the program client GNUe-forms? sorry let me explain there are several client programs for geas ok, excuse me addrbook.py is a _very_ simple one, standalone, just for demo and testing purpose GNUe-forms is another one, complicated and sophisticated (i hope jamest reads this:) ) GNUe-reports is just another one with another purpose so for a first try if geas works we will use the simplest client program that exists that is addrbook.py it runs on the console but you have to change a line in that program to make it work with your install or remote X? that line with the path to the .ior file and if I want to execute it from another pc, I must have it in second pc too? vincenzo: please first try on the same machine ok when that works we can take the next step :) I haven't ran addrbook.py, but if it is an X app, you should be able to export the DISPLAY to a remote machine ok :-) thanks so much for the moment... to be honest i never tried with 2 machines Mr_You: addrbook.py is no X app it's like a geas hello world app :) ahh vincenzo: does the directory /usr/lib/mysql exist at all on your system? numeric use -n but some of the fields are blank ah that could be the problem not sure again no should work with blank i created a one-line script sort -nt " " -k 2,2 1 you got to work with tagbs? o no where that space between " " is a tab ah yeah and "1" is the filename of my test file ;) so im confused you did tab as tab key? yes opposed to \t and it worked yep Action: dneighbo thinks thats a bit odd :) but on bash you can't enter tab key but i will buy it so i had to do a script with vi :) so how do you do sigh me doesnt know bash scripts what do i put at top to make it run nothing ok just enter what you would enter at the command line let me try here and make it chmod +x glad ya got it workin me is trying now sort -nt -k 4,4 20020001.txt > mytest.txt produces sort: 4,4: No such file or directory dneighbo: I need an A/R system... how goes the specs? rough i had expense report system spec and was gonna write last night till my laptop keyboard crapped on me reinhard : any suggestions? you have to put the tab within "" nevermind head up but butt i added teh "" and it fixed thigns ok if you want to have it on command line you can do sort -nt "$(echo -e "\t")" -k 2,2 filename which will make you the head of the whole it department if your boss sees it ;) one of my bandmates works in the RJR law offices... he says they are taking all their documents and putting them in a database.. they have NEVER thrown any documents away he said hehe.. oh wait sort -nt $'\t' -k 2,2 you just have to enclose the string into $'...' to make bash expand the backslash escapes or \\? basically i really want to do something like run this file then hand to another program to process so something like sortprog < inputfile | otherprogram > exportfile ok no problem but my otherprogram im not sure can handle that :( emacs sortprog currently its a python program i wrote sort -nt $'\t' -k 2,2 that takes parameters C-x C-c oh no C-x C-w iirc then you can use sortprog as a filter how like you said sortprog < inputfile > outputfile or foo | sortprog | bar can i do this inline or like yes mypythonprog `sortprgo outputfile' newfile or something? hmm what does mypythonprog take as parameter ? param 0 (inputfile) param 1 (outputfile) then you have to do 2 seperate commands ok like how do i do parmameters in bash? script $* means simply all parameters that come with the script are placed here $1 means place first parameter here but for you i think sort .... $* would be best because then it works with 0 and with 1 parameter just a minute trying to verify sort really works then will come back and ask the question :) oh actually with n parameters where n >= 0 ok verified it worked now what im wanting to do is basically let it accept two params on for inputfile and one for output file in dos i woudl do sort blah %1 > 2 er %2 how do i do something similar in bash? sort blah $1 > $2 #!/bin/sh if [ "$1" = "" ] then echo "Must Define Input File!" exit; fi if [ "$2" = "" ] then echo "Must Define Output File!" exit; fi Rafterman" -k 4,4 $1 > $2 seems to work wow that was funky paste but yes jcater that works thanks :) Action: dneighbo forgot his python ref argh anyone off top of head knwo how to do system call in python?
