Action: chillywilly is away: lunch anyone play with new open office? it says saves as xml which is true but they zip it up so its a binary with makes it a moot point :( as i was hoping that it REALLY stored in uncompressed xml so that i could use with cvs natively I think that most people saving as XML are at least gzipping it to save space. um but that defeats purpose if using cvs You could put a checking routine that uncompressed it automatically, shouldn't be too hard. s/checking/check-in/ yeah sigh but its not a one to one relationship even thier compressed xml is like 5 files and a manifest which sucks as if i have to fudge with it a lot im going ot a vnc to linux using lyx solution instead Doesn't lyx produce non-free files? huh? lyx uses xforms which is not 'free' it produces docbook, tex etc and other things that are free dneighbo: i thought it had an option to turn of zip'in files dia does i can not find it in staroffice :( but i cant get the help system to work so i could jsut be overlooking the location to do so Action: chillywilly is back (gone 00:18:08) dneighbo: just use unzip dneighbo: dia also zips the xml dneighbo: you can even turn it off 5 files and a manifest? ok, I see now that sucks lyx produces shitty docbook yeah 5 file and manifest but more importantly i dont want users having to zip unzip :) and yes dia has OPTION to zip/unzip what a sucky project have you ever got docbook exported form lyx to parse? chillywilly yes hmmm maybe jamest just needs to make the techref correctly then :P I couldn;t get the exported docbook to parse not sure if it was his fault or not Action: chillywilly has got a pot pie in the oven...mmmm I think it was the tables some other crap it would complain about too you got a lyx file that will export and parse correctly? If anyone's interested, I have a sample merge application in reports/samples/mailmerge that simulates the mailmerge capabilities found in most word procs. As an example, it can take XML output from GNUe Reports: http://ash.gnuenterprise.org/~jcater/merge-input.xml.txt merge it with a RTF file created in MS-Word, AbiWord, KWord: http://ash.gnuenterprise.org/~jcater/merge-template.png And create a resulting document with three pages: http://ash.gnuenterprise.org/~jcater/merge-output.png using the data from the input stream. There's also a merge-latex option (KWord and AbiWord can save to LaTeX format) NOTE: This is not a substitute for a Reports designer, but is scratching an itch I currently have w/our marketing department (they want to send out renewal notices to past customers and want to test out several wordings, so I hate having to write new reports for them each time :) Mr_You (rouzer@mankind.boredom.org) joined #gnuenterprise. hi Mr_You (rouzer@mankind.boredom.org) left irc: ircII EPIC4-1.0.1 -- Are we there yet?
