From the FAQs and the Screenshots pages, it looks like a lot of setup needs to be done to get the system up. Is this true? once that's done, you could write n-tier apps as well The screenshots are a bit misleading, as they are meant to be demos yes, I'm looking to use PostgreSQL ahhh That's our preferred d/b :) mine too We pretty much have to prefer a free d/b and the feedback from the guys here is that MySQL is OK for small scenarios or prrofs of concept but postgresql is the bee's knees for serious stuff all ITHO (in their humble opinion) I was not really impressed with Pgsql until v7.1. The small row size was always a big pain jbailey (~jbailey@Toronto-HSE-ppp3640524.sympatico.ca) joined #gnuenterprise. In terms of the apps you are looking for it depends if you are looking for fully-fledged apps out of the box now or something to build the apps with I know that CRM has been spec'ed, and because it's a fairly "sexy" subject is likely to be one of the first to be done even before Financials *sob* Action: psu is an accountant, so starting w/ anything but Financials is heresey ;-) hmmmm, OK. I'm willing to do a little work to get the right solutions working. :) I'm not a C/C++ developer but I'm willing to be a test dummy hehe in terms of the support calls side not sure what app maps best onto that however are the support calls coming in via phone or internet or a mix of both? telephone mostly Two "friendly" projects you might want to look at are Bayonne (which used to be GNUe Telephony or somesuch until it realised there were other poss uses) and also DCL - Double Chocco Latte which is a work orders system project management etc etc We actually use it internally within GNUe OK, is DCL a part of GNUe or a seperate project? for task recording DCL is a seperate project under GPL k but not (at the moment) a GNU project although that may change ahhh However we have very close links and are working on a GNUe Forms interface to DCL which will make it much more flexible Let me tell you a bit about what my needs are and a bit of history. At the moment, it's soley web based 'web based isn't too bad but if you are a power user, thick client may suit better ok but, anyway ? I used to work for a company that used a CRM system call Onyx (or the company name was Onyx)... and the company I work for now is looking at buying something like that. We have a small budget and being Linux shop I'm looking for something that fits better then some expensive system like that The catch is that we need the system up for mid Feb. :( That's tight yup DCL might provide you with the task recording/resolving Not sure how you would then link to CRM/billing in the open source community I have found only 3 products/projects that are doing or plan on doing what we need. GNIe, Relats(sp?) and the third I can't recall. s/ GNIe /GNUe There are other free or open source financials about which we occasionally get spammed from but I'm not sure anyone else has a working CRM at the moment wither Bear in mind I'm really on the edges of the project Just hang out in IRC when nothing better to do so all this is based on hearsay i.e I heard the guys say it ;-) hehe I have used DCL only minimally So if I understand correctly, GNUe will do what I want, but probably not by mid Feb. ? Action: psu is checking dcl.sf.net to see if any links to billing are mentioned brb CD - I wouldn't like to say definantly no as we have had spurts before often inspired by the prospect of real, live, users DCL does have "Accounts - Client based tracking " according to http://dcl.sourceforge.net/features.php so actually may be very close to what you want anyway best bet to take this fwd would be to look at the DCL website and contact M Dean For the GNUe side, Derek or any of the main guys can probably be a lot more helpful than me. Not sure who's around over the holidays but then we have got until Feb ;-) psu (psu@manorcon.demon.co.uk) left #gnuenterprise. reinhard (rm@62.47.44.109) left irc: "The more often you run over a dead cat, the flatter it gets" GeoDex (geodex@i.got.shelled.at.shellyeah.org) joined #gnuenterprise. dsmith (dsmith@oh-strongsville5a-64.clvhoh.adelphia.net) left irc: "later.."
