BPML is a meta language. basically a xml vocabulary for business processes. ah (i still am not sure where to place it in connection with a erp system, though) question what is a business process? "A structure for action" ... according to some guy hmmm i would say it is an algorithm for the business so basically BPML has some tags which people can use to describe their business processes (as mentioned yesterday, mainly for enterprise business processes) yeah is also good. I cited the specification: "A process is a specific ordering of work activities across time and place, with a beginning, an end, and clearly defined inputs and outputs" the main entities of the BPML vocabulary are: - messages, - participants, - activites, - rules, -transactions and - processes. what are you doing when you analised your business processes and modelled/described them with BPML? I guess there is no software out there yet which "simply" parses it and executes it and voila you have a system which handles your processes. what i miss is a document, specification with the title: "How do I create a state-of-the-art Enterprise Resource Planning System" maybe your work can result in such a document if there is none yet. dneighbo (derek@cpe-24-221-112-50.az.sprintbbd.net) left irc: Read error: 110 (Connection timed out) reinhard: that is more or less what i got out of BPML so far. ok. gtg bye SachaS (~sacha@203.190.196.142) left #gnuenterprise ("Client Exiting"). gfclient crashes with "TypeError: unsupported operand types for +: 'int' and 'NoneType'" my win98 tests with mysql were using the odbc driver Harald1 ok you have a python problem :) i use mysqldb and it seems that the error is in mysqldb you need python 2.x I have 2.2 ouch 2.2 you dont want drop to 2.1 2.2 is buggy if i change the None in the source code of mysqldb to 0 it works... you can use it but you wont be able to save forms in designer because of a streamIO bug in unicode support w/ 2.2 (still unfixed even in last candidate release) ah well i would create a diff and send it to mysqld folks as a patch :) dneighbo: well I am able to save forms in designer if you save them reopen them and save them can you reopen them? i was encountering this issue on linux w/ python and traced it back to a python2.2 bug I'll contact the developers later/tomorrow jcater tried to put in a hack to work around it i'll try... it seemed to not fix it for me BUT i was running python from pretty much cvs from right before 2.2 release :) so a newer official 2.2 might be ok as i noticed commits for unicode (just not stringIO) but as stated i think jcater put in a hack to maneuver around stringIO streamIO bug is still present. python crashes well one thing you can do (painful) is open the form in a text editor and substitue ^@ for null and then the form will be ok but next time you save it it will save with the ^@'s where are the ^@? at the end of lines? oh no after EVERY character so you get ^@o^@u^@t^@p^@u^@t^@ like that :) if you have someone one staff you want to 'joke' with this is one of thsoe good 'joke' bugs :) should it be visible in an editor? um dependons on how cool an editor you use :) in emacs its visible but ^@ means its an escape char that most 'windows' editors wont show you like ^M What should happen if I do save->exit->start->load? would crash designer iirc what happens is when you create a form no issue save a form no issue but when you OPEN a form it uses stringIO to read in the xml file and that is what converts it to unicode so then when you save it, it has that ^@ stuff in it for me save->exit->start->load does not crash tainting it for next open or for reading by forms cool well then you might not have the bug and no ^@ in gfd cool it might be a unix only problem too but if i do save->load it crashes hmmm is there way you can install python2.1 on that machine as well? or better yet just grab the 0.1.1 release it has all dependencies compiled in so to speak I'll try it later/tomorrow adn try exactly same thing and tellme if it bomb is 2.1 / 2.2 installation at the same time possible you can run them concurrently but for testing you can just get the release and windows puts everything in dlls that are much easier to download and install and remove Harald1: your running a python installed forms/designer ? that's cool, most people use the bins he is cooler than most :) as he actually submits bug reports :) lol i'm sure there'll be lots of them as I'm fighting w/ forms a bit at work on windows if i'd only get these !@#!@# web site accessibilty updates completed jamest: yes, because I want to know what happens. and besides this the cvs has no bins... cvs on windows!?!?!? In this respect, it is important to realize that the means of production?that is to say, the entire p oducing consumer goods as well as additional capital goods?may legally be, and for the most part are, the private property of individuals. er isn't that what capitalism is? the state allowing some people to rip off other people? comparing it to anarchy is false. what is amazing is that is written by Albert Einstein capitalism as we know it depends on laws hah cool I didn't know that Einstein was a filty commie I knew all those scientitsts were a bit fruity http://www.monthlyreview.org/598einst.htm yes he was it appears basically states capitalism erodes our sense of value to a society I thought he was a Marxist? and makes us hostile towards one another x5 scientists are all the same... they SAY they are trying to help us, but what they're really doing is trying to RULE THE WORLD argh well yes marxist veiw more theres a really good part of illuminatus that talks about capitalism reinhard (rm@N812P008.adsl.highway.telekom.at) left irc: "Friends may come and go, but enemies accumulate" communism took marxism and remove the better points about it wow that essay is just incredible the ideology behind marxism is fairly sound Private capital tends to become concentrated in few hands, partly because of competition among the capitalists, and partly because technological development and the increasing division of labor encourage the formation of larger units of production at the expense of smaller ones. The result of these developments is an oligarchy of private capital the enormous power of which cannot be effectively checked even by a democratically organized political s he described m$ and the trial in 1949 Huh, thats pretty interesting This is true since the members of legislative bodies are selected by political parties, largely financed or otherwise influenced by private capitalists who, for all practical purposes, separate the electorate from the legislature. The consequence is that the representatives of the people do not in fact sufficiently protect the interests of the underprivileged sections of the population. Moreover, under existing conditions, private capitalists inevi the main sources of information (press, radio, education). It is thus extremely difficult, and indeed in most cases quite impossible, for the individual citizen to come to objective conclusions and to make intelligent use of his political rights. wowzers when was this written? hehe this BLOWS me away that this was authored in 1949 its as true today as ever actually its more true today tbh, it's been the same for hundreds of years .. he was simply recording what was the case then I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals. In such an economy, the means of production are owned by society itself and are utilized in a planned fashion. is his solution the only thing that's changed is the extent a single person or company can control a market on a global basis dneighbo: good point; let's make an educational system which has goals! :) wouldn't that be a contradiction in terms? it would be in the UK the problem of a socialist state is that it moves privilage back into the hands of the state the key to true freedom is removwing privilage entirely uhm bollocks privilage is private law an economic system needs to have everyone on the level playing field I don't believe that's possible Well, its possible to the extent that you remove thet state granting privilage how? I don't know man, I didn't do it. lol actually nickr he address your concern Nevertheless, it is necessary to remember that a planned economy is not yet socialism. A planned economy as such may be accompanied by the complete enslavement of the individual. The achievement of socialism requires the solution of some extremely difficult socio-political problems: how is it possible, in view of the far-reaching centralization of political and economic power, to prevent bureaucracy from becoming all-powerful and overweening? How can the rights of the individual be protected and therewith a democratic counterweight to the power of bureaucracy be assured? Clarity about the aims and problems of socialism is of greatest significance in our age of transition. Since, under present circumstances, free and unhindered discussion of these problems has come under a powerful taboo, I consider the foundation of this magazine to be an important public service. nah, still bollocks ;) hrm on this day of our assention we praise the fallen and that's a load of old balls an all :) what be it? i have the coolest wife!
