(IIRC I may say "linux" here because this relates to the kernel) ;-) *lol* Where are you having troubles. :) jbailey: i'm trying to convert my mom and dad from w*nd*ws to gnu and gnome however they find it annoying to type in a password in gdm reinhard: I'm thinking specifically. In what way isn't it accepting an empty password. because they had empty password in windows before ah Do they want a shared desktop? passwd just tells me You can setup autologin in gdm. "no password supplied" they want seperate preferences for mozilla and such Oh. You probably have the minimum password length set in the pam file. You're using Debian, I assume? sure :) which file is that? you can do autologin oh jbailey said that must run dneighbo (~dneighbo@cpe-24-221-112-50.az.sprintbbd.net) left irc: "church" Edit /etc/pam.d/passwd You probably have a line that looks like password required pam_unix.so nullok obscure min=4 max=8 md5 yep quite exactly even the nullok is in there (Just looking this up. I though I remembered the right syntax) jhs (~jhs@cs6668105-78.austin.rr.com) left irc: Read error: 110 (Connection timed out) Blech. Looks like just remove the min=4 If that doesn't work, you need to edit the passwd file. Obnoxious. jbailey: thanks a lot found it out meanwhile well actually i had 2 problems a) passwd doesn't let me set empty password b) gdm doesn't let me login with an account w/o password I didn't mind about a) actually because I just hand edited /etc/shadow but i thought b) is because of this hand editing which is not the case passwd shouldn't care. Nope, there's a setting in gdm.conf i had to add nullok in /etc/pam.d/gdm which i found from your hint :) thanks again anytime.
