Hi everyone! hello johnf I'm a newbie to the python and gnue feel free to ask any questions here Thanks. I download .50 this evening for window (but I really want it on RH 8.0) and got and error When I run the install I get the following "The NTVDM has encountered an illegal instruction" BTW I'm running XP Well will somebody help get GNUe running on RH 8.0 if you don't know about the windows install???? there are not much helpers at the moment i think I'm guessing your right! What do you run? problem with RH installation were discussed few days ago and i missed to know was it resolved or not I'm in calif and it's 12:30AM where are you? most of developers running debian, i'm using russian distro from altlinux.com which started as russian mandrake and now separate rpm based distro but apt-get capable Are you in Russia? Very cool!!! i'm near from moscow, russia. it's a noon here :) Your english is very good! What's the weather like? i'm planning to restore cvs installation under w2k today or tomorrow thanks, previous days were cold, about 0 C, yesterday was rainy I had not thought of attempting get the install (for windows) from CVS. Good thought! I'm in northern California and were about 70f during the day and in the 40F durning the night. Currently we have a light rain. I'm remember from Just for fun book as Linus was excited with Calif weather after he had in Finland, I think we are in the same situation :0 nothing to do at the winter except to drink vodka I like red wine (any season). I'm only 100 miles (about 130 K) from one of the best wine growing areas in the world - just lucky! Have you been using Python very long? not too long and too much but prefer it to other languages I currently use Visual Foxpro on windows mostly - but I'm looking forward to using Python. Python appears to be very similar to foxpro. Well it is getting very late. But tonight was a first - I was talking with someone in Russia. Very Cool! Good night! What's next ?? jbailey (~jbailey@atlas.fundserv.com) joined #gnuenterprise. um, depends what are you wanting to do i'd suggest grabbing cvs if you're comfortable using cvs then cvs gnue ./setup-cvs.py I'd like to get GNU-e working. which does a fake install so you can run from cvs w/o completely installing the stuff I never used cvs.... But I'd like to install everything if possible.... gnue is, at the moment, tools gnue-sb is trying to build something using those tools several of us have built stuff in house using these toold but GNUe isn't going to give you HR, AR,AP,etc out of the box (just a disclaimer :) That's OK I just need some tools. if you want to play with the tools and not do a full install then I'd suggest cvs i run cvs installs in production at a few places but if that scares you then I'd download the 0.5.0 release I'm a long time Visual Foxpro developer working almost in accounting apps. common, forms, designer, appserver, navigator the heart of the system is common - you need it forms does ui designer builds forms, reports, etc and depends on forms appserver adds 3 tier capabilities to the mix i hear it's getting close to production ready but I'm not up to speed on it I have downloaded the all the files. Just need the first few steps. Should I tar the files? and you're ok w/ doing a full install? into /usr/local/gnue untar them all Oh yes! I'm just not sure what I'm suppose to do. then install common first then forms then designer then appserver then navigator cd packagename ./setup.py install rinse, repeat As root? yes, as it'll want to go into /usr/local/gnue if this is an issue then use cvs as setup-cvs.py doesn't require root it installs in your home dir and it usually works between updates so if you're playing around, find a bug and we fix it then you switch to your cvs checkout, do an update, and your "install" has the fixes automagically ooo i forgot reports too you can install that after common all the tools stand pretty much alone with the following exceptions everything depends on gnue-common Root is fine. CVS sounds great but at the moment I don't know how it works! ah, that's cake http://www.gnu.org/software/gnue/community/cvs.html 2 commands get it for you but tarballs are fine, just not as flexible about the install I'm reading the web site right now! cool I created a directory "gnue" and then ran the cvs. What's next? ls ok now you should have gnue/gnue/packages i typically call the top level cvs as I have lots of cvs checkouts so cd cd gnue/gnue ./setup-cvs.py answer the questions cross fingers come to grips with the fact you're about to run software written by people that troutslap and fear mad goats in the code then gfcvs ~/gnue/gnue/forms/samples/intro/intro.gfd What should happen after running intro.gfd it should pop open a form Last line: " Unknow keyboard accel" sigh the radhat thing redhat thing someone else reported that on RH8 or 9 Is there an easy fix? i don't recall it'd be in our logs lemme see if I can find it Thanks you!!!!!!!!! siesel (jan@xdsl-195-14-220-77.netcologne.de) joined #gnuenterprise. siesel: you know anything about the gnue frms on rh issue? i don't recall if a fix was found what was the issue? johnf: siesel is an appserver coders hi johnf Action: siesel reads the backlog Hi.
