I suppose it is. It would match 0 or more "." and then exe anywhere in a string. So: asdfSAdfsadfasdf.................exesdfasdfljkhasdflkjhsadfa would match. As would ASDFASDFSADFSADFASDFexeASDFASDFASDFSADF The *.exe would match any character that might preceed exe. so the string: exe would match as would ANYTHING_AT_ALLexe Note that both regexps would actually match either of those because the * makes it optional.
