Action: zoyd thinks he has to look at GNUe Common more closely I believe if all GNUe Packages could use HTTP(REST'ically) as it's underlying app. protocol, their design could be significantly simplified. I don't see how it would help I see the current arch. seems to be inclined towards RPC/SOAP. that is if i'm not wrong. for communication with the appserver & a seprate reports server, I guess GNUe client interfaces and tools would actually be HTTP clients that request and understand a .gfd and other markups. SOAP complicates matters w/o any sufficient advantage. Action: ajmitch hasn't seen SOAP used in GNUe yet if we forget about a web browser and HTML, then it's easy to imagine such an arch. currently, how are .gfd's served? mainly read from the local disk but can be loaded from a webserver Action: zoyd looks at the GEAS diagram if it's called GEAS, it is probably very out of date oh. ajmitch: where is it then? Action: ajmitch doesn't know but the server called geas is an old design hmm anyway, i'll get back when i'm actually playing with it. the website doesn't seem to help much. So it probably is a new GNU extension. Nice, though. yes. good idea btw found a quite interesting shell script: while ping -c 1 $1; do sleep 1; done; echo "Alarm." this script violates 8 (eight) patent claims of european patents WTF? the patent is about checking whether a machine is up with periodic network requests if the machine doesn't answer the ping, then it is down and alarm starts patent number EP0850441 geez and I thought the USPTO was out of control Action: reinhard is currently busy fighting software patents in europe havoc: funny thing is software patents are not allowed in europe just more prood that idiocy knows no cultural or political borders proof however we have about 30000 software patents currently proof? or greed? where the patent office simply didn't recognize that it's actually about software I think your sentence fits well if s/proof/greed/ reinhard: nice to see you have your fair share of dumbasses in the EU too ;) jcater: yes, greed is the root of the vast majority of all our problems reinhard: how do you fight them ? I just know the FFII currently, we do a DDOS attack on the austrian MEP's that is we had an email campaign where we asked people (business people) to contact any member of the eu parliament of their choice and tell them that they should vote against software patents cool. austria has about 15 members in the eu parliament we got the info that some of them got about 20 mails per day for over a week now so they will start thinking about the issue the main problem is that most MEP's aren't aware of the issue at all they just would do what others tell them great, no wonder that Arlene McCarthy is postponig the issue again. but now they start to make up their own opinion we had our first victory already what kind of? because the vote was originally planned for june 30 and now it is in september the vote on june 30 would have been pro patents yes, thats what I meant with "postponing" because it would have been too short to change their minds mccarthy was pressing very much _for_ june 30 (that is today actually) but due to our (and others) information campaign many MEP's said "we want to think it over again" you can look at our page at http://www.ffs.or.at/projekte/anti-swpat/ of course we work together with the FFII siesel: you ever looj at the twisted python framework? look* chillywilly: I did, but from a eagles perspective ;) so, briefly then? yes, but I can remeber that it had any outstanding feature why do you ask? what do you like about it? where could we need it for? I like the fact that it is asynchronous non0blocking I/O and that is uses some interesting design patterns like Reactor non-blocking could make a nice server base for any type of networking/app server but I haven't looked at its license Action: siesel is taking a second look ajmitch (~ajmitch@wlg1-port47.jetstart.maxnet.co.nz) got netsplit. ajmitch (~ajmitch@wlg1-port47.jetstart.maxnet.co.nz) returned to #gnuenterprise. if anyone needs mozilla1.4 for win32 http://www.math.ksu.edu/~jamest/downloads/ linux sea there as well sea? self extractive archive oh what's the point? i need moz for windows and figured i'd share since /. was nice enough to DoS them if it's not in sid yet it's not worth getting ;) i didn't need the linux one, only the windows one unless someone is nice enough to port konqueror to windows nope yip it's called Knoppix =) :) anyone using redhat9? nope this is a dead-cat free zone jcater: you have sound working on any of your ltsp rigs?
