dneighbo: does GNUe prefer an environment for GNUe on the iPAQ? for the first try I will probably update the familiar Linux on this thing. Familiar currently provides two environments, GPE which is GTK based or Opie which is QT based. I know the answer will be "whatever works" but I have to start with one of them and would like to pick the one that the project wants. im i thought opie looked much nicer alandd: you need a databaseless example to try but gpe seemed to have a lot more support (at the time) Action: dneighbo personally would say whatever works :) opie also works on zaurus or which ever one if faster personally, I prefer GPE, though :) er is what is the QPE.. real qt or some subset? what is GPE... real gtk2 or some subset i ask because if one is truly "full" set probably better to use it in sense that we wouldnt have to code a "special" driver I have not read up on QPE. The "subset-nees" of any of them is a question to be answered. though a subset shouldnt be difficult to code we support curses, so im not afraid the subset will have widgets missing that we need at this point i think GPE is installed on the machine The trolltech web site discusses QT, QT/Embedded and QTopia. There is mention there about QPE but I don't know what it is yet. so it might be easiest (read quickest) to leave that on it If I have the sleeve from Austin (no answer yet) I can update everything but the boot loader with a CF card. That would be cool. I can leave things on it if the stuff there is not out of date to far. Otherwise, I will start with the latest. alandd: the site says you can update the boot loader with a CF card LuftHans: really? I did not see that. I'll have to go back and read again. Action: alandd is away: must help a son. Action: alandd is back (gone 00:03:57) LuftHans: This page only mentions the serial cable for the boot loader and then using the sleeve to install the distro. http://familiar.handhelds.org/familiar/releases/v0.7/install/upgrade-bootldr.html alandd: yeah, I see that http://familiar.handhelds.org/familiar/releases/v0.7.1/install/release-notes.html they need to make up their minds :) well, this page talk about installing the boot loader from a unit still running MS Pocket PC. you can use the CF card there. http://familiar.handhelds.org/familiar/releases/v0.7/install/bootldr-cf-mmc-sd.html ah, so that's only for install, not for upgrade that appears so. So, I still need that serial cable of yours. ;^) ok, guess I'll have to find it :) mmmm, banana bread Action: dneighbo wonders why LuftHans stores banana bread in locations where serial cables ought to be.... i.e. need find serial cable.... results in discovery and consumption of banana bread dneighbo: if you keep the serial cables cool, you'll get a faster connection rate kind of like keeping electrical extension cords cool, prevents fires? yes if we'd've had those in vats of dry ice there wouldn't've been any probs :) OK, the GPE site, http://gpe.handhelds.org claims that GPE uses the "GTK+ 2.2 widget toolkit." The wiki page for GPE devel at handhelds.org does not show too many API changes. I'll probably start work on the GPE platform. Now that I have a goal, I must concentrate on making the hardware work. Action: alandd that was wordy! Action: alandd Why does Hans always have banana bread? alandd: normally I have cheesecake, but this week it's banana bread :) mmm cheesecake that's in the freezer waiting for the debian presentation Action: Vee2d2 heads to bed, dreaming of cheese,, and cake.
