I'd like to offer a reasonable set of alternatives to .doc files being used by one of the IT departments on campus which part are you responding to? PDF forms will do that cf., irs.gov i know pdf can do forms but they are a pita IIRC jamest: i remember just seeing something about a Free Software tax program that uses PDF files published by the irs. "fill in forms" or something. as you have to set them up as forms in acrobat i don't think the adobe printer pdf driver sees underlines as form fields i don't see the exact problem: the creation of PDF forms, the user experience of them or some technical reason? btw, does anyone know an EFnet server? the problem is the state of ks and some parts of ksu luv them some M$ stuff and M$ luvs them back right now the argument against my request for pdf instead of .doc is in the text above "they cant do forms w/ pdf" which I know they can they don't want to the next argument will be "it's harder" i'd call it stupidity or willful ignorance H (~grigora@pcp04400246pcs.nrockv01.md.comcast.net) joined #gnuenterprise. so i've put down the crack pipe and I'm asking my follow hippy free software loving pot smokers, er i mean gnue'rs for any other alternative I can suggest Nick change: H -> grigora a kick in the ass my first thought is RTF at a minimum or dual versions or a quick and dirty html forms wendall911 (~wendallc@216.255.199.8) left irc: Read error: 110 (Connection timed out) grigora (~grigora@pcp04400246pcs.nrockv01.md.comcast.net) left irc: SendQ exceeded that presents a printable html page w/stuff filled out dual versions == offer .doc or readonly PDF grigora (~grigora@pcp04400246pcs.nrockv01.md.comcast.net) joined #gnuenterprise. s/or/and i imagine anything that == more work would be shot down part of this departments duty is to insure interoperability in data on campus so I'm trying to call them on that without coming across as an rms :) tell them that you have an award-winning industry leading system and install gnue.
