Action: dneighbo has a debian packaging question for you :) fairly simple policy question i suspect Sure, whats up? libpango currently 1.2 is in testing and unstable 1.3 has been out for a while a pango developer recently switched to debian he is wanting do know what policy is technically 1.3 is a "unstable" pango i dont know is it common for say 1.3 to replace 1.2 in unstable or would they wait until 1.4 im thinking it makes sense to wait until 1.4 No - unstable is for things that are on the track to get into a release. and that if they wanted a 1.3 it should be libpango-snapshot You might find 1.3 in 'experimental', but the rules are that nothing in unstable should be built against packages in experimental. Also, because pango is a critical part of gnome infrastructure, it's uploads and such might fall under some extra rules. that is what i was thinking... would be very hard to do a -snapshot type thing as it depends on so much other gnome goodness SachaS (~Sacha@dialup-196-246.conceptual.net.au) joined #gnuenterprise. Yup. And generally, who would care? Anyone developping against such things is probably needing a whole bunch of other things packaged, in which case they probalby want to put it all in experimental anyway. true dat thanks Action: dneighbo was on right line just wanted to get a more official party line and didnt really know where to look online --- Sun Feb 1 2004
