Action: dsmith wonders if "corba" and "not suck" are oxymoron material dsmith: No, it works well in C++. Amazingly well. You run the idl compiler, and it gives you header files that you can just use, and it just works. (You have to put in a couple lines to connect to the POA, but that's trivial) I messed around with a python corba system that seemed to work fairly well.It was very interactive. You could use the normal python intrspection tools on corba objects. Nice! I think it has been bitrotting though. Can't rmemeber the name! *lol* The problem I'm having is that pyorbit takes it, compiles the idl into C, which you have to link into a library, with a whole bunch of gnome stuff, and then have to dynamically load the 'typelib' (the library) and hope for the best. It's almost enough for me to say smeg-it, and go back to C++. This didn't have any C. Or if it did, it was just a library. You didn't need to compile code for each idl. Hmm. I'm enjoying python, but I still have troubles that I can't compile it and have it tell me 100% that I shouldn't expect runtime failures from a type mismatch. http://www.gnome.org/projects/ORBit2/python/dynamic_idl.html That was it. Eh? this is weird. I wonder how this is different than pyorbit? I'm sure it is. I don't use corba all the secksy people use xmlrpc ;P mod_python based xmlrpc server w00t Action: chillywilly kicks perl I'd like to swicth to mod_python right now where I can have real exceptions I haven't looked at xml-rpc much. there's not a whole lot to it But I'm not sure I'd want al my network management traps having to go thruogh apache. in perl nesting two evals kills the $@ (messaage that follows the die()) it's pissing me off jbailey: The last released version of orbit-python is August 20, 2001. Kinda old. yeek that's ancient AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute '_load_idl' Yeah, definetly doesn't seem to be pyorbit. *joy* pyorbit died?
