Sorry about disappearing like that. I am interested in coding, or perhaps in documenting GNUe. Ah, too bad. There are more people around who can help you with sex or random conversations. Well, the first trick is to pick something about GNUe that annoys you. Then you need to pick something else, because that first thing is probably a design feature. Depending on which component it's in, jcater, jamest, reinhard, dtm, and btami are (I think) the ones actually committing things these days jbailey: lol I suppose I could get involved in random conversations if that would grease the wheels... jearl: well it's not *that* bad Yeah, listen to reinhard.. We're quite good at conversation. =) jearl: the best thing to do would be to install gnue and play around with it if you're *really* into documenting you will be our hero as a rule of thumb, we such at documentation I have downloaded GNUe, but I wasn't sure which stuff actually worked. What would be a good example of what GNUe can do? jearl: It can suck you into #gnuenterprise, and force you to talk to us. =) So far it's working... Umm. Think MS Access, with the ability to script far more intellegently, and being able to define server-side mechanisms for doing things regardless of your database supporting it. That's sort of where I start thining about the technology. Forms, is basically like Oracle Forms with some annoyances removed (and some features! *g*). I see, well that would definitely be useful. -common is the glue that plugs it into databases. appserver is the optional server component that can proxy everything to a database and run interferance for you. -designer puts together things for forms. (like UI layout and such) Integrator allows you to move data between data sources. You see, this is the kind of stuff that you should put on your web page somewhere. I only had a vague idea as to what each different component was actually for (it was especially hard to tell what common actually did) reports is an XML engine that allows you to do.. umm.. reports. If Data is heroin, -common is the dealer. Is the plan to have all of these applications talk to your app server (when it is done) or do they connect to the database directly? Action: jbailey pokes reinhard to answer that one. jbailey: Nice pusher reference :) Ouch. I just found the GNUe FAQ. I need to do some more reading. jearl: Have fun. Come back, ask questions if you want. Contribute code, even better. =) But check with people before you submit a major patch.. There are some crazy things that were done a particular way to allow for new features. Got it.
