*** wt has joined #gnuenterprise anyone here a for pay developer? if there's work available ;) ajmitch_: where do you live? new zealand I don't have too much gnue experience even though I've hung around the project for too long I've had 1 or 2 very small jobs, doing forms & the like hmm...how does international contracting work? *** johannesV has joined #gnuenterprise not sure, the most I've done is non-gnue work in australia, while I've been here hi johannesV hi ajmitch_ how goes the hacking? :) hmm slowly ... :) how annoying I'm subscribed to the commits list with an email address where the server is down :( ah, that's very bad ... yeah, it's been down for a week only about 3 people have accounts on that box wt: are you looking for someone to do some gnue work? ajmitch_: yes sorry, I was chekcing email what sort of work? well...I have someone who is interested in an estimating worksheet It would be meant to be tied into the gnue-packages *** sjc has joined #gnuenterprise ok, sounds interesting *** kilo has joined #gnuenterprise *** btami has joined #gnuenterprise good morning good morning anyone here a GPL person? I have a question about the way GNUe works is there any reason that, if a estimating system were built, that the data for the system could not be sold with a different than GPL license since it wouldn't be the software, but it would be the data for instance, if I had a set of data for estimating mechanical work for automobiles afaik it's fine to have the data under a separate license I was thinkng the same I could build the system and then sell the different data sets as long as the system were GPLed seems reasonable okay kilo: who do I talk to about copyright assignment? jamest or derek emails? jamest@gnue.org? iirc aye wt or reinhard :) anyway, reinhard should be here within the next 15 minutes ... wt: http://gnuenterprise.org/developers/copyleft.php as he's a very good person to talk about licenses tooo kilo: I am sending the info to info@gnu.org right now you mean info@gnue.org *** holycow has quit IRC sure oops now I did *** reinhard has joined #gnuenterprise reinhard: you the copyright assignment person? god beware no derek/dneighbo is and i think jamest also can I sent in my request hi reinhard reinhard! * reinhard is reading logs wt: it should be perfectly fine to sell data you got out of gnue reinhard: data used in GNUe? much like it should be fine to sell a text you wrote with emacs ;-) data used to make an application specific to an industry? reinhard: did you see the example I asked about? yes although i'm not sure what you mean exactly I wanna sell the data that says replacing a radiator will take 3 hours of labor the user will then determine how much to charge for labor units I think that is ok good of course we would like to see that data sold under GPL (GPL doesn't mean you *can't* sell) it would have to be GPL? no we would *like* it I would eventually like to release it that way that's excellent but I need a way to finance the initial development and maybe it can be GPL from the get go I will just have to see reinhard: am i right that GPL means you may ask money for the software, but you have to give it to the customer who can do anything with it as far as it falls under the terms of GPL? kilo: yes kilo: exactly ah, ok, great. reinhard: what does it take to get ssh access to the gnue machine? i mean svn be nice to jamest or jcater got it...piss of jamest and jcater j/k reinhard: thanks I am working on a contract for my consulting projects right now wt: people seem to overestimate my role in this project i'm just a normal contributor :-) reinhard: reinhard: remember that I am only up at night for some ungodly reason reinhard: you are one of my peeps reinhard: along with kilo ah, i dont take no blame for anything, all blame is to go to derek... it's the cardinal rule - always blame derek reinhard: 'normal' contributor who does a lot of work & rolls releases now :) * ajmitch_ should commit the latest packaging to svn reinhard: what is the proper term for the fact when yuo must produce an invoice based on a given invoice, negating all of it's lines, because it was released as error? in hungarian it is 'storno' so the original and the new one makes each other void kilo: void? cancel? the sum of them are 0 seems to me that you'd void the whole invoice sounds like you're revoking an invoice - but that's probably not the right terminology hmm, yes, but what is the right terminology... void? kilo: I still say void that's what would happen when I did POS and someone wanted to cancel on order kilo: funny enough, in german we also say "storno" well, i thought it was not coming from our finnougor roots from the areas east of the Ural 8-))) storno is cancellation in english via babelfish so...cancel may be the right terminology no storno has 2 meanings a) delete, cancel something (e.g. an agreement) b) revert (this is what kilo is looking for IMHO) kilo: my dicitionary says "revert" the noun is "reversal" ah, revert, not revoke.. that'd make sense :) doing the same again but with negative sign a is canceling and agreement is that not what an invoice is? hmm, supybot can do a poll. should set up a poll on this theme 8-))) wt: for an accountant there is a big difference AFAICT "cancel" means "it's not valid any more" "revert" means "it is still there, but another one is also there and both sum up to 0" i want the second one reinhard: good work kilo: fix the website before you create a new poll what should i fix? hmm, ok, i will use 'revert' then and if someone does not like it, he can revert it... kilo: packages status, for one What's with the svn, sbin, and bin Documentation directories? how are packages statuses determined? ajmitch_: that is jcater's business, i dunno anything about what he intended to do there ok Why is the base package not listed on the website? http://www.gnuenterprise.org/packages/ wt: sbin, bin - i dont get it. plz explain reinhard: items = find(...) for i in items: a = new('foo') a.bar = '1' session.commit() will it create many foo instances? look on the link I gave above kilo: at least it should ok, i will try it then (however, i would be careful with commit() in a procedure) wt: this php thing is jcater's own reinhard: i would like to generate a storno invoice. it will copy header info and copy all invoice items, with quantity * -1. at the end it should commit it imho kilo: now I see what you are saying why would you do that instead of void the invoice and just make it not count? if you have printed an invoice, you should produce a reverted one too kilo: oh you need the paper trail wt: there is a golden rule in accounting in about all european laws (i'd even think worldwide) I don't mean delete the invoice, mind you reinhard: what is that? everything that's booked and printed on paper can't be changed and invalidated any more got it reinhard: but what about errors that lead to you owing taxing on unsold goods or services? are those reverted also? yes everything sounds good to me I am just a loser in accounting *** reinhard has quit IRC everyone is a loser in accounting 8-))) *** SachaS has joined #gnuenterprise wt: imagine this - my mother-in-law (accountant) and my wife (state tax revisor) talk about accounting during family meetings... 8-))) I am going to have nightmares now I must sleep have to be up in like 3.5 hours later bye *** sjc has quit IRC *** reinhard has joined #gnuenterprise *** SachaS has quit IRC *** btami has quit IRC *** SachaS has joined #gnuenterprise *** btami has joined #gnuenterprise *** btami has quit IRC *** reinhard has quit IRC *** kilo has quit IRC *** wayneg has quit IRC *** wayneg has joined #gnuenterprise *** titopbs has joined #gnuenterprise *** jamest has joined #gnuenterprise *** titopbs has quit IRC *** reinhard has joined #gnuenterprise *** titopbs has joined #gnuenterprise hi hi all *** johannesV_ has joined #gnuenterprise *** johannesV has quit IRC *** titopbs has quit IRC *** jcater has joined #gnuenterprise *** btami has joined #gnuenterprise *** titopbs has joined #gnuenterprise *** SachaS has quit IRC *** jcater has quit IRC *** titopbs has quit IRC *** wendall911 has joined #gnuenterprise *** titopbs has joined #gnuenterprise hello all hello anybody home? wt: hi dimas: what's up? i have a question if i move my svn/gnue dir to my friend what should i change to let him anonmous svn access instead of svn+ssh? there are scripts to do that, I think I don't know if you can really do it without editing a key file in every .svn dir you know a script name? you can just use a clever switch statement with the svn binary svn sw --relocate svn://... wt: thanks, will look into that svn sw --relocate svn://svn.gnuenterprise.org/var/svn/gnue/trunk try that in the root of the gnue working dir is it url="svn+ssh://svn.gnuenterprise.org/var/svn/gnue/trunk/gnue-common" in .svn/entries that should be changed? seems like url should looks like url="svn://svn.gnue.... NO do the switch command *** wt has left #gnuenterprise dimas: svn help switch switch (sw): Update the working copy to a different URL. usage: 1. switch URL [PATH] 2. switch --relocate FROM TO [PATH...] btami: thanks, reading.. *** jcater has joined #gnuenterprise svn switch --relocate OLD_URL NEW_URL worked *** johannesV_ has quit IRC *** johannesV has joined #gnuenterprise *** nickr_ has joined #gnuenterprise *** nickr has quit IRC *** btami has quit IRC *** SachaS has joined #gnuenterprise *** holycow has joined #gnuenterprise *** nickr has quit IRC *** sjc has joined #gnuenterprise *** nickr has joined #gnuenterprise *** nickr_ has joined #gnuenterprise *** nickr has quit IRC *** nickr has joined #gnuenterprise *** johannesV has joined #gnuenterprise *** johannesV has quit IRC *** SachaS has quit IRC *** jamest has left #gnuenterprise *** kilo has joined #gnuenterprise *** jamest has joined #gnuenterprise *** reinhard has quit IRC *** jamest has left #gnuenterprise *** jcater has quit IRC *** jamest has joined #gnuenterprise *** kilo has quit IRC *** titopbs has quit IRC *** jcater has joined #gnuenterprise *** jamest has quit IRC *** sjc has quit IRC *** holycow has quit IRC *** titopbs has joined #gnuenterprise *** wendall911 has left #gnuenterprise *** titopbs has quit IRC *** titopbs has joined #gnuenterprise *** cilkay has quit IRC *** wayneg has quit IRC *** wayneg has joined #gnuenterprise *** holycow has joined #gnuenterprise
