I'm installing and evaluating gnue at my organisation and after lots of fun trying to get it installed, I think I have it all there. However, I've been unable to find a 'getting started' guide. The site/mailing list/irc log search on gnuenterprise.org is broken so I thought I would try here. Any suggestions on a quick setup that will show me what gnue can do? Thanks for your time. *** yure has quit IRC *** SachaS has quit IRC hi yamike irc log search should work in google but it is helpful when you search for particular term/topic hi yamike: have you installed appserver too? hello chillywilly I'll show you where I am at present. cat connections.conf # An example MySQL connection [devel] comment = YourAmigo Test Database provider = mysql host = localhost dbname = gnue [root@veronica etc]# gnue-appserver --connections test.connections.conf DB000: Traceback (most recent call last): DB000: File "/usr/local/bin/gnue-appserver", line 34, in ? DB000: server = geasRpcServer.geasRpcServerApp (); DB000: File "/usr/local/gnue/lib/python/gnue/appserver/geasRpcServer.py", line 113, in __init__ DB000: geasConfiguration.ConfigOptions) DB000: File "/usr/local/gnue/lib/python/gnue/common/apps/GServerApp.py", line 71, in __init__ DB000: self.__createPidFile (0) DB000: File "/usr/local/gnue/lib/python/gnue/common/apps/GServerApp.py", line 184, in __createPidFile DB000: pidfile = open (self.OPTIONS ['pidfile'], 'w') DB000: IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/var/run/gnue/appserver.pid' DB000: OK, I've created /var/run/gnue and now have an error - The connections file does not contain a definition for "gnue". This makes sense and I'm sure I can keep plugging away in this manner to get things sorted out. I was just hoping that there was a guide which said basically, put this in connections.conf. Setup a database table like so... yamike: do you have simple forms working from samples? there is That's good. Whereabouts under my nose is it ;-) kind of that for particular appserver's examples do you have gnue-contrib? Ubuntu rocks my socks No, but I'll grab it. Is it available to download or best to grab via svn. yamike: svn, i think ok, thanks for all your help. I'll grab it and see how I get on. yamike: and you'd better stick with standart connections.conf adding your own stuff when needed OK. will do. Thanks np yamike: and appserver by itself should have a working sample default connections.conf should have [gnue] and [appserver] entries for it to work if i'm not mistaken... I'm looking at that now while waiting for subversion to compile. I assume that I need to change 'provider = psycopg' to 'provider = mysql' in the [gnue] section. psycopg is one of the postgresql driver * chillywilly recommends postgres ;) I promise to install postgresql if I use gnue seriously. Am I likely to run into serious problems getting gnue to work without it? yamike: actually, you do not need gnue-contrib just to test appserver *** holycow has joined #gnuenterprise *** derek has joined #gnuenterprise *** SachaS has joined #gnuenterprise *** SachaS has quit IRC *** SachaS has joined #gnuenterprise *** wendall911 has joined #gnuenterprise *** wendall911 has left #gnuenterprise *** ajmitch_ has joined #gnuenterprise
