*** reinhard has joined #gnuenterprise *** johannesV has joined #gnuenterprise good morning *** kilo has joined #gnuenterprise good morning good morning all johannesV: made all the releases ready yesterday evening so you are free now to test packaging from release ah great since commit mails are missing i see how wonderfull they were .... indeed i miss them so much :) reinhard, what about translation ? we can do that at any time we want I'm sure there might be beta2 etc ok and of course at least a pre1 before the final release (because some people tent to report problems 10 mins after beta release :D ) s/tent/tend kilo: you think? I can't imagine that :-P lol hi kilo, how are the packages going? hi sacha_... i think you can guess the answer :( 'lacking driving force' is the correct state i think reinhard, which user/own should we use for the packages ? root/root kilo unfortunately night *** sacha_ is now known as SachaZzzz hmm, version numbers for packages on os x are built as 'a.b.c', so "0.6.1.99-beta1" is not a valid package version ... can it be a.b.c.d.e? then I would go 0.6.1.99.1 *** yure has joined #gnuenterprise no hm, well, have to try to leave out that beta ... just a sec no well, it issues a 'non-fatal warning' so i think it will work but i'm not sure how the update-manager will react though :) *** siesel has joined #gnuenterprise ok, now i've got an installer package for gnue-common created (after erroneously compiling and optimizing all python files on my machine ... :(( ) first steps are always the hardest ... :) pioneer :) does ggcvs work for anyone? i get CircularReferenceError on a simple table... ok nvm found it... again i was stupid, not the pc :D ajmitch: you here? *** johannesV_ has joined #gnuenterprise *** johannesV has quit IRC kilo, works fine for me *** johannesV_ has quit IRC *** johannesV has joined #gnuenterprise *** johannesV has quit IRC *** yure has quit IRC *** lekma has joined #gnuenterprise hello all *** kilo has left #gnuenterprise *** johannesV has joined #gnuenterprise back hi lekma hi siesel I've thought a bit about the next steps did you have time to have a look at what i sent you? yes. But I didn't include it into my code ye t Just the python xulrunner didn't work at all hmm it crash dumped with some strange error message right in the beginning strange btw. can I use the xulrunner debian package, or is it necessary to include python during compiletime it can be the optimizations (at build time) or the needed link to libpython ther's no official pyxcom xulrunner build yet so if you want to test python in xul you have to build your own for the rest i advise to use xulrunner nightlies from http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/xulrunner/nightly/ I hoped to do a simple apt-get, but I will use your build for now :) i personnaly test with the trunk nightlies (cause the 1.8 branch lacks a few things) how long will it take to just install python as an xpi? What do you think? can i send you later a new build without optimization a my latest work? (maybe at the end of the day or tomorrow) yep, your welcome you can already (nearly) do it I talked a bit on #javascript, and figured the best way out to create namespaces you need to build a standalone xpcom and the python/xpcom ext for templates? so I will refactor the current code to be more flexible no, just for the heaps of javascript objects :) told you prototyping std objects is evil yep, so I probably will use your XMLRPC code good but I will dig a bit deeper into some other problems first. like datetime handling I want to get the basic appserver sample running this one is tricky (datetime) i'm trying to do just that make the address module work i thought about datetime pb Currently I can already parse it, create the forms and edit data, but the datetime stuff break much and can't find an easy way to solve it well in fact in comon the GDatatime stuff is pretty neat yep, so porting would be a good idea. yep oh if you still use vcXMLRPC datetimes are broken in it btw. I thought about the the easiest way to get a complete xul frontend: IMHO it would be to write some wrappers around the current forms code yes I know, but I didn't even come so far. :) The gnue-forms.js code is from the time before the xml file split into a layout and fields part so what I was doing last weekend is to just fix this. Do you now PyPy? yep it's exciting but not there yet python written in python Someone is writing a javascript code creator i.e. you will be able to use a python interpreter in javascript *** jamest has joined #gnuenterprise the opposite of this then: http://wwwsearch.sourceforge.net/python-spidermonkey/ I used it to make javascript triggers work. But it has many memory leaks. are commit msgs down? jamest, yes since a few days ... there's a problem on lists.gnu.org i think ... reinhard had a link yesterday ... https://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=4322 sigh but I still get about 15 gillion spams a day from my gnu.org address why couldn't that be down instead of the lists :) 15 what? million, billion, or brazillion? :) brazillion :) jamest, is that share/_listdir.php overwritten automatically by something ? i've lately added a new filetype ".dmg" ... but now it's gone err... wanted to tell you that and forgot yeah, must be if i look at the timestamp you have to change it in svn ah, ok www subdirectory in gnue tree if it's the site then svn it gets checked out regularly nightly jamest: don't use words like "night" in global development groups ;-) ok, fixed that great, have a look at our prereleases :) bbl *** derek has quit IRC *** derek has joined #gnuenterprise *** klasstek has joined #gnuenterprise reinhard: you're around? yes, for a short time reinhard, johannes: when I use new forms to access old appserver, I just got some strange error message. IMHO I should get the information: please update appserver must run in a few minutes ok. ah ok siesel: you know our new bug tracking system? you mean IRC ;) no I know . http://www.gnuenterprise.org/roundup/gnue/ yes, I know just joking. will put it in there ok, thanks Just concerning principle, I think the appserver interface should be more robust yes you may even assing it to johannes initially :) some days ago you and johannes talked about an error because of _close after _destroy or double _close, You said, better raise an error. I agree, that raising an error would be great, but I get the impression, it should not be the direct python error, but should be filtered somehow One example is, that I can pass a non date value into a date field. hi siesel what is your email, have an email for you? yeah, I think appserver's direct interface is not very robust siesel: I agree with you must run now, wil bbl ok, cu *** SachaZzzz is now known as SachaS SachaZZz: hi, my email is mail at jan-ischebeck.de ok. thanks thank you. ok will email you. bye *** SachaS has quit IRC * siesel chatting with RoundUp have to run by *** lekma has quit IRC *** derek has quit IRC *** derek has joined #gnuenterprise *** sjc has joined #gnuenterprise *** siesel has quit IRC *** johannesV has quit IRC *** johannesV has joined #gnuenterprise *** derek has quit IRC *** derek has joined #gnuenterprise *** derek has quit IRC cu all *** reinhard has quit IRC *** johannesV has quit IRC *** yure has joined #gnuenterprise *** derek has joined #gnuenterprise *** derek has quit IRC *** kilo has joined #gnuenterprise *** reinhard has joined #gnuenterprise *** derek has joined #gnuenterprise *** chillywilly has quit IRC *** chillywilly has joined #gnuenterprise does designer currently support gtk2 ui? it seems to ignore my DefaultUI = gtk2 setting in gnue.conf designer is strictly a wx-based application at this point only the client tools have multiple renderer options :( ok that's cool was just wondering if I had mucked something up.. any hints on how to adjust the font size in designer then? they are really big at the moment and it makes it difficult to use no but within a few hours a huge commit to designer will be made fixing a lot of UI issues :) are you running a release? yeah just the ubuntu packages atm also, is it the python editor part, or just everything in general that's too big? downloaded the source but wanted to get things up and running first everything maybe the gtk1 font size then? will grab the source in a few hours then. hmm that is strange as far as I remember designer doesn't explicitly set the font size same thing happens with all my gtk1 apps. ah, ok so I obviously need to set that somewhwere tried gtk-switch-theme but that didn't work have to have a bit more of a dig at it... what window manager do you use? metacity I think it's a setting that goes into .gtkrc, but I really don't know anything beyond that yeah that's what gtk-theme-switch does. it changed the .gtkrc but the apps appear to be ignoring it *** reinhard has quit IRC *** jamest has left #gnuenterprise *** jcater has quit IRC *** jcater has joined #gnuenterprise /etc/gtk/gtkrc.utf8 !! *** yure has quit IRC *** derek has quit IRC *** kilo has quit IRC *** derek has joined #gnuenterprise *** sacha is now known as SachaAway *** klasstek has quit IRC *** sjc has quit IRC *** jcater_ has joined #gnuenterprise *** jcater has quit IRC *** jcater_ is now known as jcater *** jcater_ has joined #gnuenterprise *** spack has quit IRC *** spack has joined #gnuenterprise ajmitch: you here? I am what will the name of the next ubuntu release be? hello hi dapper drake thanks due out in about 7 weeks, I think how can I see what version of a package will be in it? something like http://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnue-common sweet thanks bummer ubuntu will still have wx 2.6.1 is that a problem? is there a good reason we should consider a newer version? probably not I have docking working correctly (finally) in designer, but it relies on fixes in 2.6.2 ah but I doubt my convenience is reason enough for ubuntu :) sadly the debian maintainer of wx isn't terribly helpful at times which makes it hard for us in ubuntu to make sane changes without getting lynched :( yeah, I saw 2.6.1 is still in sid seems that 2.6.2 has a number of other issues anyway Its hopelessly broken for wxGTK, we're waiting for 2.6.3 with those problems and the ones you listed fixed, but things have been a bit slow coming together. great sigh upstream & debian maintainer are the same guy, so he sticks native packages in debian and goes off at anyone who might complain :) given gnue's pace I may stick to requiring the 2.6.2 fixes ok and the latest release of designer will just have to be used by people who want non-source installs which means not working on dapper unless I can find a way to work around the other bugs don't you love wx? which will suck, knowing they go away in 2.6.2 :) don't worry about debian releasing anytime soon weren't they targeting christmas? or did I just imagine that? Total number of release-critical bugs: 994 wow there's still a few bugs to fix and do you think that debian will stick rigidly to such a release schedule? it may happen.. I may be switching my ltsp servers to ubuntu (the ones users run KDE from) and just leave all my backend services on debian * jcater needs to test ubuntu with my cfengine setup or what I may do is just disable dynamic workspaces in designer if you don't have a good enough wx version you'd just get a layout that I deemed good enough for you to use :) sounds reasonable good to hear that designer is still getting some loving I could always have one of those warning dialogs with a "Do not display this again" that warns you what's happening ajmitch: newbie question... do ubuntu .debs use the debian/control structure as well? yes everything is the same *** siesel has joined #gnuenterprise hey siesel hi ajmitch Are you already working on ubuntu packages? already? * ajmitch has been working on ubuntu for awhile now I mean the prereleases. I want to test real world packages ah no I haven't started, since dapper is already in freeze for new upstream versions no chance? btw. would it be possible to use rosetta to manage the translations for gnue? it's possible sadly launchpad is not free software :( so it could be done but may not be good for a GNU project yeah, you're right I just liked it are you still connected with DotGNU? yeah I had dinner with rhysw about 2 days ago :) cool, I should check out the embedding page again :) not a lot has been happening with dotgnu, but it's still being developed siesel: do you want me to try & put together some prerelease packages? that would be cool :) * ajmitch is away from his home computer at the moment, but will be back in NZ hoepfully at the end of next week so where are you no. Australia? yeah brisbane doing some C# work cool. most of my childrens friends are in australia for holiday now *** krizz_ has joined #gnuenterprise hello hi krizz_ i was wondering if i should say goodmorning or something like that :) here is really early in the morning but what about in this channel :) siesel, ? u probably have hard time understanding my english sorry :) no, no problem understanding. for me it is afternoon. 14:35 but the main time of this channel is european and US time you are from greek? yes from greece i'd like to ask if it's an easy way to search in the irc.logs before i ask something in here I would recommend to use google. I think you can restrict google to give you only results from a specific site yeah, i did this once, but i can't really call back how it's done and the logs are at www.gnuenterprise.org/irc-logs me too. but whats your question i have a local svn snapshot of gnue project, do i have irc logs too? i can't find them (didn't drink coffe yet :D ) 2 questions no the first has to do with defining mysql chartset in connections.conf the postgre example has such a parameter that works, but mysql it doesn't mysql just provides a "use_unicode" parameter, it is set to true by default yeah! I noticed that in mysql driver can i set this parameter to false in connections.conf (use_unicode=false) or i just have to convert my db to unicode? no i don't just tried to :) no, you can set it to false in connection.conf but even if i could, it wouldn't probably help much, right? my gnue-forms, display greek prety well, the only problem is with the data retrieved from db (mysql) so probably is the encoding i'm getting data from mysql but table colletion in my mysql tables is set to utf8_bin yes, I just checked the documentation for the mysqldb driver. use_unicode If True, CHAR and VARCHAR and TEXT columns are returned as Unicode strings, using the configured character set. It is best to set the default encoding in the server configuration, or client configuration (read with read_default_file). If you change the character set after connecting (MySQL-4.1 and later), you'll need to put the correct character set name in connection.charset. If False, text-like columns are returned as normal strings, but you can always write Unicode strings. This must be a keyword parameter. charset If present, the connection character set will be changed to this character set, if they are not equal. Support for changing the character set requires MySQL-4.1 and later server; if the server is too old, UnsupportedError will be raised. This option implies use_unicode=True, but you can override this with use_unicode=False, though you probably shouldn't. If not present, the default character set is used.
