I have a qustion about getting started with gnue I am running on debian testing and installed all gnue packages, then tried the HelloWorld, but no luck I am getting: ImportError: No module named gnue.common.apps.GClientApp *** SachaS has joined #gnuenterprise Is this the place where I can hope to get help with gnu beginners questions? I meant gnue of course speedsnai1: sorry to be so unresponsive, I'm on the phone with customers it is the right place here oh sorry. I'll wait of course okay speedsnai1: did you install debian packages, or did you download .tar.gz and install them? I installed debian packages, and I just found out the name python refers to ver 2.3. Using python2.3 takes me a step further The debian packages seemingly don't coope with multiple version installed side by side. I think I'll need to figure this out first. oh yes, the debian packages don't use python-central yet ajmitch is working on that trying to remove python2.3 will also remove gnue-designer hmm perhaps I try this, and then reinstall gnue-designer. See what happens... I think the current packages in debian *require* python2.3 The requirements say pythin (>=2.3) so there is a chance...? nope, designer is insisting on python2.3 *** deke has joined #gnuenterprise I am correcting: it is python-wxgtk2.4 which requires python2.3 and designer in turn insists on python-wxgtk2.4 :-( *** jcater has joined #gnuenterprise removing python2.3 from the system also is not an option since this is needed by a lot of other packages it seems I am out of luck for the moment erm if you explicitly use python2.3? Hmm, not sure about this, "python2.3 helloworld" complains about helloworld: Unable to load the connections definition file: /etc/gnue/connections.conf. But I did not yet look into this. I do not know if I should expect having debconf set this up already. what helloworld is it that you are calling? I would have expected you to call something like python2.3 /usr/bin/gnue-forms helloworld.gfd oh! it did not, obviusly I have to edit these files beforehand. I expected thsi because there was no README.Debian in the /usr/share/doc/gnue-common present *** klasstek has joined #gnuenterprise The example is from the initial section of the developers guide. I was trying to use it to test my setup you want to develop with gnue-common? Hmm, perhaps I should try to find the INSTALL file (which is omitted from debian) and read this first? I'm not entirely sure what you are aiming at at all Getting started! I am completely new to gnue. Altough I am very exited from what I already have seen from the website, I currently face a very steep learning curve and just struggling to even get started. so I guess you want to develop forms with gnue? that access some database? In principle, yes. I am trying to figure out how easy ( or complicated) it will be to create some simple applications for our company. I want to get rid of the annoying local excel files everyone is using now, but avoiding beeing trapped into Access or something the like. do you have experience with sql databases? some have you already decided which backend you would use? I am considering postgres Indeed it would be nice if I could find a local consultant where is "local"? Austria / Europe erm... where in austria? :) Vorarlberg speaking here :-) Grüzi, Horn from here Didn't expect somone that close! *** johannesV_ has joined #gnuenterprise *** johannesV has quit IRC *** derek has joined #gnuenterprise *** deke has quit IRC *** speedsnai1 has left #gnuenterprise *** derek has quit IRC *** derek has joined #gnuenterprise *** johannesV_ has quit IRC *** derek has quit IRC *** SachaS has quit IRC good night all *** reinhard has quit IRC *** derek has joined #gnuenterprise *** SachaS has joined #gnuenterprise *** jamest has left #gnuenterprise *** klasstek has quit IRC *** jcater has quit IRC *** derek has quit IRC *** jamest has joined #gnuenterprise *** jcater has joined #gnuenterprise *** jcater has quit IRC *** deke has joined #gnuenterprise *** derek_ has joined #gnuenterprise *** deke has quit IRC *** derek_ has quit IRC *** deke has joined #gnuenterprise
